Shakti Devi, the active life force in the universe,
Glowed with brilliant illumination.
Durga, the wicked Mahisa buffalo,
Drove the deities from heaven,
Bringing floods, droughts, and storms.
He dragged off every goddess of perfection
To do his housework.
Along with an army of thousands,
Devi rode against him on a lion.
Then a man in armor, then an elephant,
And finally his true form with one thousand arms,
Before Devi finally won,
Restoring order to the universe
With a thrust of her trident.
